1 star chicken

The 1-star chicken is certified with the BLK label, also known as the Beter Leven Quality Mark. This farming method is more animal-friendly due to fewer chickens per square meter and the use of slow-growing breeds, recognizable by their longer and more slender legs. The covered outdoor area provides more opportunities for natural scratching behavior and supports a natural day-and-night rhythm. The label is monitored by independent certification bodies. Every link in the chain that wishes to communicate about 1-star chicken must be affiliated with the BLK foundation.

Distinctive features of 1-star chicken – Beter Leven Quality Mark:

• Animal welfare: Maximum 12 chickens per m², meaning the animals have more space.
• Covered outdoor area: Each house must have a covered outdoor area representing at least 20% of the total floor space of the barn.
• Slow growing: The breeds used are slow-growing and are at least 56 days old at slaughter.
• Environmental enrichment: Chickens are provided with straw bales, grains, and pecking blocks inside the barn to stimulate natural behavior.

Our 1-star chickens originate from SEDAR in Poland. External compliance control is carried out by KIWA. We exclusively commercialize and distribute SEDAR’s 1-star chickens.
