CHRISTMAS TURKEY

When people think of turkey, they usually think of the Christmas turkey, the most well-known variety worldwide.

Whole turkeys vary in weight from 2 to 16 kg, with most sold in the 2 to 5 kg range. These lighter turkeys mainly come from France. This is because the French turkey breed develops meat at a younger age compared to its larger counterparts in the rest of Europe.

A French turkey therefore has better meat coverage at a younger age. In addition, French slaughterhouses are more specialised in offering a range of slaughter weights. The slaughter age varies from 8 to 12 weeks, depending on the desired weight.
